Major Awards And Victories
One of the most well liked and well respected drivers in professional chuckwagon racing, Garywas a semi-finalist at the Calgary Stamped for the third consecutive year and qualified for GMC Rangeland Derby championship final heat for the second time in the past 3 years. 2014 also saw Gary post 17 top ten runs, including a day money run at the Calgary Stampede and 5 other runs that also placed inside the top five. In just 3 years on the WPCA Pro Tour, Gary has qualified for 4 championship final heats including one at the Grande Prairie Stompede in his first career start as a WPCA driver, has twice placed inside the top ten in the World Standings, and has had two horses named to the Calgary Stampede's Equine Outfit of Excellence. Prior to joining the WPCA, Gary had an extremely successful career on the CPCA circuit where he was the 2010 CPCA Champion driver, the CPCA’s High Point Driver three times in four years, and won 13 CPCA show championships in a 5 year stretch. Gary won the CPCA’s Bruce Bremner Award for the Most Consistent Barreling Outfit in 2010, received the CPCA's Chuckwagon Family of the Year Award in 2005, and qualified for the winner–take–all final for the CPCA Championship in six consecutive years and finished no worse than 3rd overall in the same time period. Gary is a second generation wagon man whose father Art Gorst competed at the Stampede in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. Gary and his wife Janice have three children - fellow driver Logan Gorst and champion outrider Dustin Gorst, and daughter Jenalee, and make their home in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan.
